Following on from Bournemouth’s capture of highly rated Sheffield United youngster David Brooks, it’s now being suggested that with some cash burning a hole in the Bramall Lane outfits pockets, they are tempted to splurge a little for our youth prospect Sam Gallagher.

The Yorkshire Post did a rumour round up for the football clubs in their area on Thursday and this piece of speculation featured.

They claimed that official from both clubs had been in discussions this week over the future of the 22-year-old but the speculation didn’t widen itself to proposing whether talks were on a permanent basis, a loan basis or a loan to buy.

Gallagher does have 20 appearances to his name at St Mary’s, with a return of two goals, but his game time has really come from spells with MK Dons and Blackburn Rovers. He returned to the Championship last season with Birmingham City and he made 24 starting appearances, ten substitute showings and returned seven goals, earning some good reviews for his efforts.

Manager Mark Hughes will no doubt be taking a closer look at him in pre-season training this summer before deciding on his future and he did, of course, feature for Southampton in our recent friendly against FC Schalke 04 getting the second 45 minutes as Hughes rotated the team up, so my guess would be a possible loan spell, rather than a straight sale at this point.

That’s assuming there’s anything in the speculation to begin with, of course.
