Southampton fans saw plenty of fine performance and clean sheets from goalkeeper Fraser Forster, but as we began to seriously struggle in recent seasons, his form plummeted and with a clear lack of confidence, the former England man paid the price and saw himself replaced at St Mary’s Stadium.
With Alex McCarthy and Angus Gunn now ahead of him in the pecking order under manager Ralph Hasenhuttl, we shipped him out on loan for the campaign of 2019/20 and he returned to former club Celtic looking to get himself back on track.
The 31-year-old has made ten appearances for Neil Lennon’s side so far, but he seriously excelled on Thursday evening as they took a 2-1 victory over Italian side Lazio in the Europa League, with one stop late on certainly catching the eye of Southampton fans on social media.
It’s been a while since we saw that kind of form from him!
Oh my word Fraser Forster! ????
A special, special save to secure the three points for Celtic!

Idc, McCarthy and Gunn are nowhere near the level of shotstopper as Forster. Absolutely unreal save ????#SaintsFC https://t.co/0PseBGtG1D

Fraser Forster in his prime is the best keeper we’ve had, always will respect that guy! Would love to see him back to his best. #SaintsFC

It doesn’t take a genius to know that Forster is actually a good goalkeeper and probably better than Gunn, who doesn’t get slated half as much! #SaintsFC https://t.co/u6Gbvwz9kX

Opinion: Forster isn't 'still the best keeper at #SaintsFC' because losing form to the point you make catastrophic errors week in week out isn't what good keepers do (or what good managers allow their keepers to do, to be fair).

Fantastic to see Fraser Forster making saves and smiling again #saintsfc

It’s really good to see Forster getting back to his best. He was brilliant for #saintsfc before and immediately after his injury.

Always supported him, shame he got dropped but feel like as a club we should have supported him a lot more when he was in the bad stage ????????

Absolute top reaction save from Forster there #saintsfc

Absolutely delighted Fraser Forster's doing well at Celtic. The guy always had the talent. He needed to get out of Southampton and start afresh and he's a new man again up north! #Saintsfc

Just remember, Fraser Forster is ours ???? #saintsfc

So, Fraser Forster showing how good he can be when he’s got the support and backing of the fans and manager. Good on him. He’s twice the keeper Gunn is, in fact Gunn might never get to the levels that Forster has shown in his career. #saintsfc

Recall Forster and let Gunn go to Celtic for the rest of the season tbf. #SaintsFC
