Southampton found themselves linked with young Shrewsbury talent Rhys Davies this week and it was said that the 17-year-old defender had already been on trial at Staplewood as we cast our eye over him, and for all intents and purposes he had been pretty impressive.

Southampton weren’t the only club linked with a possible move for him though, as it was said he caught the eye of a few clubs following his loan spells into non-league in the campaign of 2018/19 as he boosted his development and experience, but to save repeating the whole story, I’ll simply link the original.

Report Claims Southampton Are Eyeing League One Talent

With the rumour gaining some traction, the Shropshire Star claimed yesterday that they understand that despite the interest being shown in him, Shrewsbury are potentially ready to let him go for free when his scholarship expires as they won’t be offering him a first professional deal.

Having been informed of that decision, the implication is that’s why he’s been out on trial with us as he’s looking to secure his own future, so we’ll have to see.
