Finally.

A lot of Southampton fans had all but given up hope of ever receiving the news that we had waited so long to hear. Fan sites were all a quiver and demanding to know what was wrong and almost every club tweet was greeted with responses asking for an update on the managerial situation.

Then at a time when we were either in bed or thinking of retiring for the night, comes the news that Mark Leslie Hughes has signed a new contract (3-year deal) thus extending his stay as Southampton manager.

The news when it came was short and to the point – saintsfc.

Good news we have to agree, especially as the club had been saying how much of a shoe in the decision has been. Whether there was a hiccup on details we will never know but at least we now know that we have our man.

After a poor couple of league results, we saw signs that Southampton’s football team was taking to the new manager and his ideas. Performances improved even though it took a while to see us gaining some points for the effort being made.

The tide changed and the Saints’ fans began to live in hope. Us fans became more vociferous and the team finally played with spirit. This spirit is what we sincerely hope Hughes has our squad playing with next season.

Having taken the gamble of whether he could actually hand us a prolonged stay in the Premier League. I am pleased to finally see that all the dithering has ended and we are now in his capable hands.

Now we can wait to see who we sell and who we bring in, knowing that we should see more life in the team.
