Following talks with Rudi Skacel, Saints’ Head Coach, Mark Wotte, has confirmed that the Czech defender is available for selection once again.

The 29-year-old had been ommitted from Wotte’s squads in recent weeks after asking for a transfer away from St Mary’s.

However, after any move failed to materialise during the January transfer window, Skacel has reassured Wotte that he is committed to the cause and willing to give his all to help the team.

Speaking to saintsfc.co.uk, Wotte said, “Rudi is available again. He’s told me he wants to play so I will select him if I need him.”

Wotte also praised Skacel for his contribution to the side, prior to asking for a move. “I know Jan was very happy with him, he showed his quality at left back, but he has competition with Lee Molyneux and Joseph Mills.”

Despite preferring to play as a left midfielder, Skacel has mainly been used at left back this season. However, with Lee Holmes facing a few more weeks on the sidelines with a troublesome knee injury, an opportunity may arise for Skacel to feature in his favoured position over the coming weeks.

  • Good news if you ask me. I’m not convinced by Molyneux at all and if Rudi gets his head down then he’ll be back in the side before too long. I’d like to see him at left midfield though, as his delivery is first class, and it is his favoured position!

  • Tis silly in truth that such a good player is out in the wilderness. Skacel has proved he has quality but is a bit of a spoilt brat of late.

  • Fully agree with you DrWatford. Rudi is a great player at this level and I was suprised that a club didn’t strongly come in for him. But I just think that Rudi thinks he’s better than he is. If he knuckled down he could really help us and he would earn his wages at the club!

  • Dont believe the spin! Rudi, didnt want to leave… its obvious to me. There would have been no fee. Wotte said as much. There would have been no bennefit to Rudi holding out for a better deal as he is out of contract at the end of the season.

  • rudi did want to leave. i know this as a fact. however, fair play to him for getting his head down and working on getting back into the team. hes not stupid, and he knows that if he is going to get a move to a decent side in the summer, he needs to be playing, and playing well too.
