Manchester City comprehensively battered Southampton on Sunday afternoon.

Few Saints fans were confident ahead of this tie given our leaky defence and inability to score at the other end and manager Mark Hughes has been unable to turn that form around. Most had already written this game off and it was probably the safest and most sensible outlook in fairness.

If you want to grope for positives, this game in isolation won’t dictate our season – however bitter a pill the 6-1 scoreline is – and Manchester City will certainly take other teams apart with ease this season so we don’t stand out there.

The performance of Danny Ings was also a positive as he found our consolation on the day at the Etihad Stadium from the penalty spot in the 30th minute.

It’s not really surprising to see WhoScored make him our Man of the Match with a player rating of 7.03.

Mario Lemina, Shane Long, Ryan Bertrand and James Ward-Prowse completed our top five on the day, but after Ings nobody else scored above 7.

Everyone in the top five, apart from Bertrand, also had at least one effort on target in the game.
