Some players will be beloved by a club for as long as they live, and in Southampton’s case, that man is Rickie Lambert.
Pick that out

The now-retired striker has cemented himself as an icon down on the south coast with Saints after playing an inspired role in the club’s sensational rise from League One to the Premier League, where in five years with Southampton, Lambert scored 115 goals as numbers from Transfermarkt show.
And it is one of these many goals that the Saints official Twitter account were honouring today in the build-up to Southampton’s Premier League clash against Chelsea, as Lambert’s strike against the Blue’s in the 2012/13 season saw the Premier League side secure a 2-1 win over the west Londoners.
As expected, some Southampton fans saw it as an oppertuntiy to reminsice over the iconic Saints no. 7 as supporters took to social media.
Here is what some Saints supporters had to say on Twitter…
Legend…I have so much respect for that man.

And we've never come close to replacing him

Some fans, though, had more than pleasent memories about the game itself…
@mkw211089 wasn’t that the game where you drove home with me singing about Rickie Lambert the whole way back?

@bendicko86 average player you say? ????

Southampton have lost their previous two Premier League games and will be hoping to end this poor run of form against Frank Lampard’s side on Sunday.
