Southampton made it back to back victories following the visit of Everton in Saturday’s Premier League clash.
Second half goals from James Ward-Prowse and a credited own goal from Lucas Digne gave us the 2-0 advantage but amidst nine minutes of stoppage-time from the referee, Everton did claw one back and set up a very nervy ending – but we held on to take all three points.
Statistics website Whoscored gave their Man of the Match and their star man rating to 22-year-old centre-half Jan Bednarek who was again impressive across the 90 minutes.
Completing the top five best performers on the day under their algorithm were Ward-Prowse (8.00), Jannik Vestergaard (7.55), Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (7.31) and Danny Ings (7.12).
Jack Stephens was the other member of the squad to get himself a seven-plus rating from the game, but come stoppage-time it was certainly a strong defensive effort on display and that will bring positives of its own given how leaky we have been at points this season.
