There’s no secret behind saying Nathan Redmond had a poor 2017/18 campaign for Southampton and nor is it fair to point that out, all that should be said is he was far from alone on that score as we battled relegation for much of the year and seriously harboured concerns of dropping back into the Championship.

It’s a credit to the 24-year-old that he wouldn’t dismiss that criticism or disagree with it as he’s freely admitted last campaign was a bad one from a club and personal perspective as he didn’t contribute or perform how he would’ve wanted.

The failed semi striker role and the pressure that put on his performances certainly didn’t help under Mauricio Pellegrino and I think a fair few fans give him a break on that score as well, but with his own words now out there to shred I think the reactions from fans on social media have been spot on given we know what he’s capable of, and with Redmond appearing to be a confidence player anyway, anything that lifts his confidence further suits all parties.
He looks more comfortable this season already mate….him off the left, Moi off the right good combination ????????

Good, forward, take on your man and use your undoubted speed to blow by them… That’s what we want to see, not this stopping and passing back all the time.

Had a good start to the season and is clearly a confidence player that thrives off the crowd. #saintsfc

He was really frustrating last season as he is undoubtedly very talented.I think we have seen glimpses of what he can do already this season! Let’s get the 3 points next week to get the ball rolling ????

Admitting he’d put the work in over the summer I’m guessing also went over well, so if we can get him back to his best and then he can get back to improving how we all thought he might when we signed him, again we should at least be on for a much better year than last term.
