Souness to be Saints Saviour?

Following a run of 3 defeats in 4 games, many Southampton fans are preparing themselves for a potential third season in the Coca-Cola Championship.

The loss of parachute payments after two seasons out of the top-flight could potentially see Saints in financial trouble. The impending sale of Gareth Bale (reported at about £10million in some national newspapers today) would only succeed in delaying the cost of missing out on promotion.

Souness has reportedly been spotted at Saints’ last two games and I for one would be glad to see the back of the current board, who have only succeeded in making false promises to fans.

If Southampton are not promoted this season, it could turn out to be a blessing in disguise. In an ideal scenario, Souness’ consortium will take over offering a cash injection for another promotion push with a Chairman who knows a thing or two about football.

Most fans are currently focused on promotion, but missing out this year could ensure a more secure future if Mr Souness does table a bid and prevent Saints from ‘doing a Watford’ if they are promoted now.
