Southampton secured their first home win of the season with a 2-0 win over Norwich at the St Mary’s Stadium on Tuesday.

After the home side had gone close through David McGoldrick only the post denied Antoine Sibierski’s header from giving Norwich the lead. Ryan Bertrand, Darel Russell and Lee Croft all went close for the guests soon after, but none could make the breakthrough, which was something Southampton could just before the half hour mark. Jordan Robertson (29), on loan from Sheffield United, marked his debut with a 25-yard goal.

Dejan Stefanovic and Sibierski again both went close for Norwich with headers then Bradley Wright-Phillips, on for the injured Tomas Pekhart, was denied extending the home sides lead before the break by the bar.

In the second half Robertson and McGoldrick both had chances but only two good saves from the home ‘keeper Kelvin Davis denied Omar Koroma. Roughly midway through the second half the home side were given the chance to double their lead when a foul by Stefanovic not only saw a penalty awarded, but he was issued a red card. McGoldrick stepped up and made no mistake. The hosts had further chances but couldn’t add to the two goals they scored.
