Southampton Academy Graduate Up For Top Premier League Award

|

Southampton Academy graduate Will Smallbone has seen his efforts for Under 23 manager Radhi Jaidi rewarded in the Premier League 2 campaign of 2018/19 as he’s been shortlisted for the official Premier League 2 Player Of the Season award.

Having made significant improvements in his game across the campaign, the talented youngster was handed a new two year deal at St Mary’s Stadium back in December and the 19-year-old has done himself no harm by displaying his versatility at that level – operating in a number of midfield roles.

Having spent over a decade with us coming through the age levels, his first year at Under 23 level saw him contribute ten goals to our cause as we reached the Semi-Finals of the Premier League International Cup and face a Premier League 2 Play-Off Final which will take place within the next week.

He’s joined on the shortlist by:

Eddie Nketiah (Arsenal), Aaron Connolly (Brighton & Hove Albion), Bassala Sambou (Everton), Morgan Feeney (Everton), Rafael Camacho (Liverpool), Elias Sorensen (Newcastle United), Adam Idah (Norwich City) and Danny Loader (Reading).

The winner of the award will be named on the evening of Wednesday, May 16th at the Premier League Youth Development Conference which is hosted by Fulham this year.
