Southampton could look to sign Mbaye Diagne, according to Aksam.

They claim Saints have made contact with Galatasaray regarding a possible transfer.

The 27-year-old Senegal international was in great form last season, scoring 30 goals in 29 league matches for the Turkish champions.

The forward is valued at £8.1million by Transfermarkt and still has four years remaining on his contract but the report claims Gala want to sell him whilst his stock is high, in order to generate funds to improve the team more generally.

He would appear to tick a lot of boxes for Ralph Hasenhuttl.  Previous signings, Moussa Djenepo, and Che Adams are versatile and can play all along the frontline, Diagne is similar as he can also operate in multiple positions.

The striker was on fire in front of goal last season, as was Adams who scored 22 times in 46 Championship matches. Admittedly these were in poorer leagues but it is an area Hasenhuttl wants to address.

Last season Saints were ranked 15th in the division for goals scored and only managed 45 all campaign, according to Whoscored.com.

The article also claims Southampton could face competition from Premier League rivals for the striker, with Brighton and Crystal Palace said to be interested.
