The Daily Echo have reported that Cedric Soares, after being absent from the club last season, will have the opportunity to showcase his skills in front of Ralph Hasenhuttl.

The Portuguese spent the second half of the last campaign on loan at Inter Milan. The Italian side have refused to take up their option of making the move permanent. His spell in Serie A was not great, he only managed nine appearances.

Despite the player being sent on loan by Hasenhuttl, the Austrian now wants to see if Soares has gained the skills to become a valuable addition to the team, according to the Daily Echo.

The right-back is reported to have attended the pre-season training trip to Austria, to allow the manager to gauge his suitability to rejoin the squad.

The defender cost Saints £6.3million in 2015 and has just one year remaining on his contract, and is valued at £10.8million by Transfermarkt. The report says he is a player the club would like to move on.

Yan Valery was handed his Saints debut last November and then went on to replace Soares in the team.

However, Southampton fansite @SaintsfcViews believe the club have given The Daily Echo information in an attempt to raise interest in the defender.
