Southampton confirmed late yesterday evening that defender Florin Gardos had now completed a loan move back to Romania.

Having joined from Steaua back in August 2014 for a reported £4million, the 29 year old has only made 12 starting appearances for Southampton, with a further six showings from the bench – as well as an Under 23 run out – as his time at the club was severely impacted for a serious knee injury that kept him out of contention for a significant period of time.

Having returned to fitness, he has made two appearances in 2017/18 but he’s clearly down the pecking order for manager Mauricio Pellegrino and with his contract up in the summer, the loan move to Sportiv Universitatea Craiova is no doubt designed to get him greater game time and potentially impress to secure himself a contract with another club come the end of our season.

His new side are third in the Romanian Liga 1 division and they have secured qualification for the ‘championship round’ which decides the title and the European places in the country.

It’s a deal that probably suits all in many respects.
