Nine years ago yesterday, former owner Markus Liebherr completed his takeover of Southampton and, well, as they say, the rest is history.
The man may no longer be with us following his tragic death but his influence certainly is, as is that of Nicola Cortese and his diligent work in Liebherr’s name.
KRAZYB gave his own memories of the man yesterday.
Markus Liebherr – Southampton’s Saviour – Today We Remember Him
Rightly, the club also acknowledged him.

I don’t need to overly pour over the state the club were in at the time of his arrival, and I don’t need to wax lyrical about how he changed our future or our fortune. Every single fan will have their own thoughts and their own memories and dare I say their own worries had that takeover not occurred when it did. The difference the man made, with grace and dignity, is epitomised by the fact we are still in the Premier League and in fairness, the shock and disappointment that 2017/18 was because our sights are far higher. We are and have been looking at silverware and potential European adventures.
Without Liebherr all those years ago that wouldn’t have been the case today – I firmly believe that.

It is not an overstatement to say that we wouldn't even have a club, if it weren't for Mr. Liebherr. Wish he would've been able to see more of the fruits of the seeds he planted.

The term legend gets bounded around too often. But an exception has to be made for Markus .
