With the weekend’s reports indicating that Southampton have now agreed a deal with Aston Villa for their long term Targett, Academy product Matt, plenty of fans seem delighted with the news.
Bid In For Southampton Academy Graduate & Journalist Is Confident Deal Will Go Through
In short, it’s been claimed that the newly promoted side will pay £14million up front but the overall deal will be worth £17million to us and it didn’t take long for most fans to see an immediate read across to our chase for Birmingham City striker Che Adams as the Targett deal (assuming those figures are correct) instantly balances out the reported £15million agreement we are supposed to have now agreed with them.
Whilst I’m sad to see him go and I think they’ll be an element of regret as he develops further, with Ryan Bertrand being first choice and Targett wanting game time it does make it a sensible deal, especially if it is the difference between getting Adams over the line or not as up front is a far bigger problem than defence.
No idea how the club have managed to sell Matt Targett for potentially more than we will spend on Che Adams. That is some accomplishment so fair play to them #saintsfc

If this is true, I am delighted!

They funded the money so we can get Che off of Birmingham and thus Villa have done a great job in getting a new LB and screwing their rival club! ????????

Reading more looks like £11m upfront with rest in add on. Solid player but think needs regular games to push on and a move will do that. Good deal all round

So we’ve managed to do Targett out and Adams in pretty much straight up. Impressive stuff #saintsfc

Selling Targett and using that money to fund the Che Adams deal is a cracking piece of business by Ralph. #saintsfc
