Over the weekend Southampton confirmed that Guido Carrillo had headed out of St Mary’s Stadium having agreed a loan spell with CD Leganes.

The 27-year-old makes the switch to the Spanish side for the entire 2018/19 campaign and then either we’ll benefit from him hopefully getting a boost in confidence so we can see what he can actually do on the pitch, or his stock will rise and we’ve got more chance of recouping close to the £19million we paid Monaco for his services back in the January 2018 window.

Having been targetted by former manager Mauricio Pellegrino he made seven starting appearances and three showings from the bench but he failed to find the target once.

He again links up with Pellegrino as he now manages at CD Leganes.

It was an unfortunate move for all in reality, I doubt Carrillo is as bad as what we saw as he came in under pressure given our league positioning and he didn’t have time to settle and adjust. On the flipside, when you pay £19million for somebody you expect them to show more than he did and settle quicker. Fans will be fans though but most I expect will be forgiving – and more quickly forgiving if he now shows what he can do and we increase our chances of selling him!

Most of the anger is directed at the Board rather than the player it’s fair to say.
