He is confident that the team is now starting to show signs of a return to form. Added to that is the fact that yesterday the side played with more movement which he is trying to instill the importance of to them.
The performance yesterday matched the score-line and that also pleased him. He is also happy that there are alternatives available to him with the size of the squad.
Talking to the Saints Player he said, ‘It’s momentum. We could have scored several goals in the that first 15 minutes, we just needed to get those opportunities.’
‘We were pleased for Rickie to get his two and on the whole we’ve created a lot of opportunities. Lambert and Barnard got themselves into good positions where we could feed the ball into them. Lee Barnard worked his socks off for the team again which is brilliant.’
Continuing Nigel added that he reckons that there is a lot more to come from the team. He stressed the importance of playing quick passing and good movement.
He knows that there is still a lot which can be improved but is happy that the players are starting to play his way.
He had a good word for Radhi Jaidi who was dropped to the bench for the Bournemouth game. Nigel stressed the importance of us having a squad that can be switched about for different games.
Adam Lallana also came in for some praise and I feel Nigel is relieved to have our golden son back and available. Though only reckoned to be 70% fit Adam had a major part to play in our performance.
Several of our team are carrying niggles and Nigel is pleased that with the size of the squad the players can be protected to a certain degree.
Nigel added that if the team can play at a high tempo and can pass and move the same, we will make chances. We want to excite the fans as much as we want to win and if we can play the way we want we will do both.
Very upbeat and promising in my book. Nigel speaks well and seems to be turning around the style of play and fortunes of our team. All in all a good weekend for all Saints fans.
