Reading were formed in 1871 and mainly played friendlies until joining the Southern League as one of the founder members in 1894. Two years later they moved to Elm Park where they stayed till 1998.

In recent years they have seen their stay at the top level ended and now they are regarded as a side securely entrenched in the Championship.

Reading had Alan Pardew as their manager from September 1999 until September 2003 when he left to take over West Ham United. Whilst their though he did have a promotion from the second division(now div 1) to the 1st Division (now the championship).

It will be nice to think that he can do the same for us this season and gain us a promotion from the third tier to the second tier of the English Leagues.

Today Reading have Brian McDermott as their manager. Coming in last season when they had been struggling he turned things around and began to make them more of a force.

They appear to have a strong team on paper and will be hoping for a successful season that may end up with them challenging for League honours.

Michail Antonio who was on loan last season to the Saints could play for the ‘Royals’ on saturday. If he does i hope that he does well but not well enough to spoil the party.

I am looking upon this game as the hardest that we will have during pre-season and personally I hope that we can earn at least a draw.

It will be a tough game of that I am sure. At the end of the day, though a win would boost morale a good performance is of more importance at the moment.
