Southampton Linked With Exceptional Japanese International Youngster

|

With only two games left in the Premier League season of 2018/19, Southampton’s fate is now secured in terms of our battle against relegation to the Championship, so manager Ralph Hasenhuttl can now turn a greater eye towards summer strengthening and one link that caught my eye was Japanese youngster Ritsu Doan who has taken the headlines at Groningen this year.

The 20-year-old attacking midfielder already has eleven full caps for his country, returning three goals and having impressed in 2017/18 on a loan spell with Groningen, they made the deal permanent last summer and this year he’s contributed four goals and three assists in 28 matches in the Eredivisie.

The young lad has already equalled the goalscoring record of Arjen Robben as a teenager when he found the net against Roda back in April 2018, so he’s some prospect and Calciomercato have recently linked us with a move for him.

If the report is to be believed, we are up against Ajax and PSV Eindhoven for his potential services.

Given Ralph Hasenhuttl’s pivot to youth, that does seem to strengthen this link in some ways.
