As had been largely expected, a short time ago Southampton confirmed the arrival of former RB Leipzig manager Ralph Hasenhuttl as our new gaffer.

The 51-year-old has been announced today but he won’t begin work until tomorrow, so will – also as expected – take a watching brief as Kelvin Davis leads the team in tonight’s Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley Stadium.

He has signed a two and a half year deal at St Mary’s Stadium and will continue to be supported by First Team Assistant Coach Davis, Head of Goalkeeping Dave Watson and Head of Sports Science Alek Gross. We’ll have to see if he brings in any of his own appointments to bolster his new backroom staff.

Speaking to saintsfc as his arrival was announced, chairman Ralph Krueger explained that we had been aware of him since his time at Ingolstadt and given his approach to the game and the way he prefers his teams to play, he has now basically proven himself and we look to get ourselves back on the Southampton Way.

Not before time either.
