Burton Albion could be interested in signing Southampton’s young goalkeeper Harry Lewis on loan, according to The Derby Telegraph.

The report suggests the League One club have been in touch with two Premier League clubs looking to add cover for Stephen Bywater, who is the only shot-stopper at the Pirelli Stadium with first-team experience.

Lewis spent the 2017/18 season on loan at Scottish club Dundee United, where he made 30 appearances. The 21-year-old did not get a sniff of first-team action last season at St Mary’s and is behind Angus Gunn, Alex McCarthy, and Fraser Forster in the pecking order.

A Daily Echo report claims that Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has not yet made up his mind on who would be his number one in goal for next season.

It had appeared Forster was to be frozen out on the south coast but the Austrian played him in Southampton’s penultimate game of the season. Despite conceding three goals, the Englishman was not blamed in any way for the scoreline according to the report.

With three senior keepers already vying for the number one jersey at St Mary’s, Hasenhuttl may feel it could be the right time for Lewis to gain more experience with the Brewers.
