Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand picked up his fifth yellow card of the 2018/19 Premier League campaign last Saturday during our unfortunate draw with Watford.

Our skipper has been an ever-present since taking the armband under manager Mark Hughes, but with five cards reached he will now miss the trip to Fulham’s Craven Cottage as he serves an automatic one game ban.

That could open the door for youngster Matt Targett to finally get a fifth appearance on the pitch himself.

The 23-year-old Academy graduate last featured in the game against Everton at the beginning of October, and should he get the nod for this one, it would be fitting given his loan with Slavisa Jokanovic’s side last season as they won promoted via the Play-Offs from the Championship into the Premier League.

With plenty of interest in him during the summer transfer window, fans were largely pleased to keep him with us so hopefully, he can make a point to Hughes and get a bit more regular game time now given how highly rated he is at the club.
