Southampton – Memorial Cup For Markus

The club has stated that this will be an annual event in honour of our late saviour Markus Liebherr.

It is hoped that it will show the love and affection we hold for him, and that he held for our football club.

The format will be unusual in that it will be held between Saints, a Premier League team, and a La Liga team in three high octane 45 minute games.

The three round-robin 45-minute matches will each finish with a result guarenteed. If any match ends in a draw, then it is decided by a penalty shoot-out with points awarded fairly to reward competitive play.

As normal, three points will be awarded for a victory during regular play, with no points going to the loser. However, if the match is decided by penalties, then the winner is awarded 2 points and the loser 1.

This sounds like another ground breaking funfest which Saints can claim to be the first of it’s kind to be held in this country.

I shall be there with my tribe and hopefully we will see a near full house for this new and exciting format.
