Southampton midfielder Oriol Romeu is expected to play a key part in manager Ralph Hasenhuttl’s plans in the coming 2019/20 Premier League season as we look to push back up the table and build on last season’s improvements following the Austrian’s arrival.

With 31 appearances to his name last season, when it was confirmed that the 27-year-old Spaniard hadn’t made the trip to Feyenoord owing to an injury he picked up during the training camp out in Dublin, plenty naturally questioned the severity of the problem given the lack of details available.

As the week came to an end though, the player himself took to his Instagram account to share a picture of him back out on the training pitch with his teammates so it can only have been a minor knock with no lasting damage.

With Romeu featuring in the pre-match build-up to our final friendly of the summer earlier today against FC Koln – click here – the expectation was he’d feature and get some additional minutes under his belt and he did appear just after the hour mark in our 2-0 victory which saw goals from Danny Ings (penalty) and skipper Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
