It was being reported on Saturday afternoon that Southampton midfielder Jordy Clasie could be set for a switch back to the Eredivisie with Feyenoord rumoured to be his destination.

Sky Sports were reporting that they understood the 27-year-old 17 capped Dutch international was set for a return to Feyenoord, the club we originally signed him for back in 2015 for a reported £5million, on a season long loan spell.

Sky suggest that Mark Hughes is happy to move forward without the player and it’s fair to say that despite showing glimpses he hasn’t really ever hit the ground running since his arrival. He’s only made 46 appearances for the side, with a return of two goals, and last season he spent the year out with Club Brugge, helping them to win the Belgian First Division title.

He does have two years remaining on his contract at St Mary’s Stadium and it’s said Southampton would prefer a permanent deal, but given he wants to return home for family reasons, a loan is the more likely.
