Southampton midfielder Oriol Romeu sent a message to the fans earlier today and not only was it well received amongst the fanbase, it was largely reciprocated.

With most believing that players will already be on their holidays now the curtain has been drawn on the campaign of 2017/18, whilst it was a disappointing season on a number of levels, the bottom line is we secured our safety late on and we are looking forward to Premier League football once again in 2018/19.
It was a difficult year for fans and it’s spurious to not think it was a difficult year for players, so letting their hair down, getting rid of any frustrations only serves us better next season.
Sending a message to fans at this stage though is a nice touch and even the simple message above from Romeu helps mend a few bridges, lift spirits and shows there is a desire to improve once again.
It might not resonate with every fan, but it will, and has done, for plenty.
Everything she said ! Look forward to seeing you next season in a Saints shirt- boss of the midfield

You’ve had a tough year on the pitch, but we know you’re a top player. Remember: form is temporary but class is permanent. We believe in you – smash it next year, mate.

The eagle-eyed amongst you, if you went directly to Twitter, will have noticed the image in the Tweet has offended Twitter’s sensibilities. It’s perfectly child-friendly and it appears here, but let’s not let that get in the way of a bit of gentle ribbing.
In fact, if you look even closer it looks like he succeeded in tripping himself up as well.
First lesson Oriol: that's not how you play football mate.
