Earlier this month the summer transfer rumour mill had Southampton interested in talented and highly rated Bristol City youngster Lloyd Kelly.

The 20-year-old England Under 21 international full back has been impressive at Ashton Gate across the Championship 2018/19 campaign and with the curtain closed on the year, he’s made 27 starting appearances with a further seven showings from the bench and apparently we made a strong enquiry for him during the January window and were quoted £15million, but we didn’t progress it and simply continued scouting him.

With suggestions that we would go back in for the defender this summer, Bournemouth have stolen a march on us if we did have any interest and over the weekend they confirmed his capture for a fee believed to be only £13million but the expectation is that the fee will rise with clauses.

Hopefully the club haven’t missed out on one of Ralph Hasenhuttl’s top targets here and we have our eye elsewhere, or at least from the left back point of view, the Austrian is happy with Ryan Bertrand and Matt Targett, and any interest was potentially in the fact he could also operate in the heart of defence.
