With a small break in the Premier League fixture list with the next round of the FA Cup taking precedence next weekend, Southampton have attempted to take full advantage of that as manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has whisked the first team squad away for a warm weather training camp in Tenerife and our gaffer is already on record as insisting it won’t be a holiday, and the players will be working on defensive improvements in particular after our two recent results and the late goals conceded.

Southampton’s social media team gave an update yesterday after the players had touched down and begun holding their first training session on Monday.

Eagled-eyed fans had spotted that Academy graduate Michael Obafemi was involved in the session and it was his first training appearance since the Republic of Ireland international had been sidelined with a hamstring injury.

Having not featured since the Huddersfield Clash back on December 22nd where he scored his maiden senior goal for the club, it’s obviously a boost if he can come into contention for Hasenhuttl for our return to action and with existing, misfiring, striking options, it’s certainly a boost to fans given the current feeling in the fanbase, especially after a failure to strengthen in January.
