This news has come like a bolt out of the blue and is a complete surprise coming as it does after such a fine win on Saturday.

This a decision that has been reported as coming after a review of the current status in and around the first team.

The club has reached the decision that to fulfill the asparations of the five year plan, immediate action needed to be taken.

The Manager Alan Pardew, First Team Coach Wally Downes and Goalkeeping Coach Stuart Murdoch have all been relieved of their duties.

The club stressed that it understood that frequent changes to management are unlikely to assist us in winning trophies and promotions.

They have set targets which we all know about and to reach them this difficult decision has been made.

This step we have been told is to further the aims that both us the fans and the club hold. Promotion is the aim for this season and stability and progress along all fronts for the future.

Thanking the three men for their endeavours the club added that they wish them well for the future.

Dean Wilkins has taken on the caretaker role of First Team Manager and he will be assisted by Martin Hunter the Under 21 coach.

The club added that it has already started evaluating the candidates and longer term requirements.
