Southampton’s hopes of signing Calum Davenport have been hit by the news his agent, Colin Gordon, says he will not be leaving Tottenham.

It had been reported that he was surplus to requirements at Tottenham and would be allowed to move on for a fee of around £1.5m, with the Saints said to be keen on the player.

Norwich, Watford, Portsmouth and Reading have also been linked with the player, but Gordon has moved quickly to dismiss the rumours.

He insists the player is fully focussed on getting himself in top shape for next season for the London-based club.

‘It is rubbish to suggest Calum has been told he can leave. He has not been told anything and he is one of four central defenders at Tottenham,’ said Gordon.

‘Calum is just concentrating on pre-season training and he is looking forward to the new season.’
