Ricky Lambert notched his 26th goal for Southampton on saturday against Walsall. This strike came after Lee Barnard hit a brace for the second time in a week for the Saints. Now with 4 goals for the Saints, Barnard has notched 21 for the season in division one, as he hit 17 for Southend United.
On the OS Lee Barnard has admitted that the two strikers are now in competition to see who will end up as top striker in the division for the season. Lee said that he was pleased to have scored his first goals for the club and was now chasing Ricky to finish with more goals. He was pleased that he had been able to get a couple of tap-ins but enjoyed his second strike against Walsall as it was his best for the club so far. Hopefully I’ll be able to keep pushing him till the end of the season He said.
Southampton are now blessed with three players who have been scoring frequently. Alongside Ricky 26 goals, Lee 21 goals, we also have Adam Lallana who has managed 14 so far this season. New boy Jason Puncheon is another who can score and Southampton are looking like a team that can score from anywhere.
‘Our job is to attack and score goals’ affirmed Lee. ‘All of us scored which is nice and when teams come here or we go to their place they will know they are in for a tough game.’
All in all it is looking good for the attacking instincts that so many Saints fans have, Alan Pardew is now set up to be a manager who has goals and even more goals as his prime target. It does look as though we are about to go on an all out attack as we search for points.
