With Jake Hesketh enjoying a very good loan spell out with Burton Albion in the first half of the year, it’s being reported that Southampton will soon complete a deal that will see him spend the rest of the season out with MK Dons.

The 22-year-old midfielder made 23 appearances for the Brewers in the opening half of the year before returning earlier this month and his spell with them was a good success as he scored three times at League One level. It seems a little strange to send him out to League Two now, but if the club feel that’s what is best for his development potential I’m certainly not one to argue.

MK Dons are in sixth place fighting for promotion, sitting only nine behind league leaders Lincoln City, so maybe we want to give him the experience of that kind of pressure now?

Assuming this deal does go through ahead of tonight’s deadline slamming shut, I guess a few fans may have wanted to see how he did with us now given the confidence boost he’d have taken, but there’s time yet is Ralph Hasenhuttl sees something he likes.
