With Southampton opening their pre-season game schedule with a 3-3 all draw against FC Schalke out in China, it was our second match today in the Club Super Cup and we faced off against Chinese Super League side Jiangsu Suning.

It was again another tough test for Mark Hughes’ side even if the conditions were slightly easier than the previous match.

We took a 3-2 victory come the full-time whistle but certainly didn’t have it our own way although we did open the scoring with Manolo Gabbiadini finding the net. The hosts hit back quickly on two occasions and we almost went into the halftime break behind. Nathan Redmond saved those particular blushes as he hit our leveller two minutes before the end of the first 45.

Second half Sam Gallagher had us back in front with 13 minutes to play and that was where the scoring ended.

As expected, Hughes took the opportunity in this tie to get extra minutes into his starting eleven as he looked to bring their fitness on further and there is a high chance that, subject to further signings, the team he started with might be the one for the Premier League opener. Some players even got the 90 minutes.
