29-year-old Ryan Bertrand almost stole the show at the weekend with his fabulous strike in the 52nd minute of the second half to open the scoring for Southampton as we hosted Leicester City at St Mary’s.
His left-footed effort deserved all the plaudits it gained him, but it was another frustrating and disappointing day as Leicester fought back to take an eventual 2-1 win as we were reduced to ten men as Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg saw red having been adjudged to have dived in the penalty box to complete two yellows on the day.
Whoscored.com gave Bertrand a rating of 7.58 for his efforts on the day.
A goal from his only shot on target, one key pass, 73 touches and a pass accuracy level of 80.4 on the day, and defensively he added two tackles and three interceptions across the game to become our star performer in their eyes.
The only man to beat him on their ratings was fellow England man Harry Maguire. Epitomising another largely poor performance from Southampton lies in the fact that only Mario Lemina was rated above 7 from the game.
We continue to wait for our game to click and for our strikers to start really firing.
