Southampton have been busy, fresh on the heels of the news about Adam Lallana, young defender Jack Stephens has now put pen to paper on a deal keeping him at the club until the summer of 2017.

The 19 year old penned the deal earlier today and has clearly impressed the management staff with his outings in the U21 side.

Jack joined us two years ago from Plymouth, and although he still had a year to run on his original contract, the club have moved to reward his development this season.

Speaking to saintsfc Jack said.

‘I’m delighted to extend my stay here. There wasn’t an awful lot to talk about, just where to sign really! This club has had a massive impact on me, and has helped me as a player and as a person. It’s the best place to be for a young player.’

Stephens says that with the contract all sorted out now it will take the pressure off him and allow him to fully concentrate on developing further and working his way into Poch’s plans for the first team.

‘I joined when we were in League 1 and now we’re in the Premier League looking for a top ten finish, it’s unbelievable where the club has gone and it’s only going one way.’

Pochettino said himself at the contract signing.

‘I am very happy that the club has been able to secure Jack’s services for the next four years. I have watched a number of U21 games in recent months, and have been particularly impressed with how Jack has fared, he shows great leadership qualities and commitment. He clearly has a lot of potential.’
