It may be a strange statistic but Steven had scored only his second goal of the season. The first was scored at the Etihad when Saints gave City such a scare meaning he has scored both of his goals against the champions.

Perhaps this second goal though will prove to be a lot more important. Davis has had a bad start generally since arriving from Glasgow Rangers partly caused through injury.

Lately though he has been a big part of the team and has begun to show the form which we thought he had in him. Yesterday along with Jack Cork and Morgan Schneiderlin he pressed and harried City out of their stride.

Talking to Saints Player after the game Davis said, ‘It is a massive three points for us – especially against Man City – so we can take a lot of positives from that,’

‘But it`s important we don`t lose sight of what our aim is – and that is to stay up first and foremost, and then we’ll see where we can go from there.’

‘We know what we have to do. We have shown that we can get a level of consistency in our performances over the past few weeks so now we have to see that through.’

Continuing he added that new manager Mauricio Pochettino was to be praised for the way that the team was playing. He explained that results like this win were down to the manager insisting on a high pressing game.
