Tony Pulis will make a £1.5 million bid for the 22 year old in the January transfer window.

The Under-21 international has been linked with a Premier league move for two years; and Stoke are keen to get the midfielder.

South African born Surman, has made 19 appearances this season for the Saints; scoring four goals.

With Southampton’s defence issues, Surman has found himself covering at left back for the opening games of the season. Yet, with Rudi Skacel coming back into the set up, Surman has been moved back to midfield.

  • I know, would be such a shame if he had to go. But our financial situation is not in a good state. Saints fans have to be realistic and in order to keep us afloat, we have to sell players.

  • abesaint… all i can say is that we may want to sell players…but give them away? 1.5m is a joke. a very sick joke
