Svensson hangs his boots up

Michael Svensson has decided to retire after serving seven years at Southampton FC.

The commanding centre back was forced to make this decision after having a battle with a disastrous knee injury.

Last year, ‘Killer’ adopted a coaching role at St. Mary’s, and the Swede’s decision to retire means he can focus on his coaching position.

Svensson came to St. Mary’s from Troyes for £2 million in 2002, and became an instant fan’s’ favourite, helping the side reach the F.A Cup final in 2003.
