Svensson Optimistic

Things were looking good for Michael Svensson after he spoiled the Maine Road leaving party with the only goal in a 1-0 win.

Since that day in May 2003, Svensson has barely played any first team football after badly damaging his knee the following season. Svensson will travel to Manchester again this weekend, but only as a spectator following a lengthy and frustrating rehabilitation program.

Svensson recently flew to Germany to be treated by recognised doctor Muller Wolfhart. However, his treatment has been held up by illness which will mean yet more time on the sidelines for the former Sweden international.

Svensson is obviously frustrated but remains philosophical about his future at the club: “It is another chapter of the book,” he told the official Southampton website, “It has been a depressing road at times and it is hard to see what is going to happen – but I am still hoping it will have a happy ending.”

“I wish so much I was part of the squad going to Manchester City – I would love to score another goal. Maybe I will save it for the final? Or the last game of the season to be part of the promotion celebrations?”

If Southampton can match this faith and determination on the field, could Svensson`s dreams become a reality in May?
