Southampton striker Leon Best is proving to be a wanted man.

The forward has had loan spells at Bournemouth and Yeovil in league one this season, clocking up 13 goals in total.

He returned to Southampton on Wednesday and has already picked up the attentions of League One side Oldham Athletic, but now Swindon Town manager Paul Sturrock has spoken about his intentions to try and tempt Best to the league two side.

He told the Swindon Advertiser: “The next problem I have is when I go for players a lot of them don`t want to come to this league.

“The McGoldrick kid at Southampton chose to go to Bournemouth because they are in a higher league than us.

“Leon Best would be one we`d be very interested in. He was with me at Sheffield Wednesday.

“His contract at Southampton finishes at the end of this season.

“If they get him to sign a new contract and move him back out on loan again I will be there with my begging bowl. George owes me a favour because he sold me Alex Mathis for £600,000 when he was at Ipswich. I will be calling that favour in.

“I`m sure there will be a lot of other clubs looking at him but we`ll give it a go.”
