The life of the modern-day goalkeeper is one full of scepticism and criticism, and Angus Gunn has been facing the full brunt of that with Southampton fans over the past few weeks.

Following his heroic performance against Manchester United in the Premier League in late August, the former England youth international has been the subject of criticism from supporters following some poor outings in the Southampton goal that have seen Gunn ship 15 goals in just eight games for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side.

And after Alex McCarthy’s shutout performance against Portsmouth in the League Cup last month, some supporters on social media have been eager to see the club’s number two keeper handed the starting spot in the XI for the first-team as well as to serve Gunn a lesson for his poor displays in recent weeks.

Gunn has seemingly gone from hero to zero on the south coast following a string of poor performances…

Gunn joined Southampton last season from Manchester City for a reported fee of £13.5m according to BBC Sport.
