‘That’ll stay with me forever’ – Lots of Saints fans fondly remember game against legendary club

With Southampton currently lying in 17th in the Premier League table, the days of playing against Inter Milan at the San Siro now seem like a million year away.

The Saints were drawn with the Serie A giants in the 2016/17 Europa League group stages, meaning that the south coast side had to make the trek to Italy and face Inter in the legendary San Siro stadium, something that plenty of supporters on social media still remember fondly three years on.

Although Southampton would lose that particular game 1-0, with a 10-man Inter side featuring the likes of Mauro Icardi, Samir Handanovic and Ivan Perisic, the return fixture at St. Mary’s proved to be a more positive fixture for the Saints, as Virgil van Dijk and a Yuto Nagatomo own-goal secured three points for the south coast side in a 2-1 win.
