The Curse Of Billy Davies?

Billy Davies’ appointment at Nottingham Forest will be making Saints fans think the worst this season. It was Billy Davies’ side who denied the Saints a ticket to the Play-off final in the 2006/07 season.

The Saints were in the semi-final against Derby County, with the first leg at St. Mary’s ending in a 2-1 victory for Davies’ Rams.

The following leg at Pride Park saw the match dramatically end in a 3-2 victory for the Saints thanks to Gregorz Rasiak’s 90th minute winner. This took the game to extra time and then… dreaded penalties. It was then the ex-Derby player, Inigo Idiakez who blasted his penalty over the bar – breaking the hearts of the 5,000 Southampton followers behind that goal.

Every Saints fan has had nightmares of that night, and there is one man who stays in their mind – Billy Davies. Now manager of Nottingham Forest, the Saints are once again faced with a battle with the Scottish manager; this time, at the other end of the table – a relegation dog fight in fact.

Saints and Forest are going to be flirting with relegation for the rest of the season, and with Billy Davies being Southampton’s opponent again, Saints fans will be dreading Davies putting another one over the south coast club.
