Last year Salisbury were given the same treatment. Next year could be the turn of another of our smaller ground root clubs.
Southampton, Portsmouth, Bournemouth, Plymouth, the list grows longer every year. Clubs that in trying to make the grade suffer badly from failing to achieve their targets.
Reaching serious financial short comings is not the sole right of the smaller clubs. As has been shown in recent times by Southampton and Portsmouth escaping from closure by the skin of our teeth.
This scenario will be repeated annually until the Football League wakes up and demands a larger slice of the TV money and it’s spin offs.
The Rules are being changed with a capping of money allowed to be spent on the playing side but can this be too little too late?
Reading between the lines one can always get the wrong impression, but the statement from the Rushden CEO seems to make it perfectly clear that the league has changed their minds and the way things were being done to sort out this mess.
Southampton were extremely fortunate to receive the backing from Markus Liebherr just in time to both save us and then help us turn our fortunes around on the field of play.
We were lucky and I hope that like Salisbury have done, the Diamonds can strike back on the pitch and start climbing back up the leagues.
Sorry if some of you Saints fans don’t feel the need to worry about someone like them but we could have been in the same position and I still feel the pain that we felt 2 years ago.
