With tempers high following last Saturday’s defeat to Cardiff City in what should’ve been a very winnable game for Southampton, a number of fans were quick to point to our lack of January transfer dealings in the aftermath of the game.
With the plan being to trim the group and with some late deals falling through if the rumour mill was to be believed, falling into the relegation zone for some was expected as some age old problems came to the fore again.
Taking to social media following the game, a number of fans had one target in mind when it came to apportioning blame – chairman Ralph Krueger – and whilst that’s understandable, it also seems a little short sighted given the improvements we have seen under our new Austrian gaffer.
Cardiff was undoubtedly a bad day even though we were in better control of the game, and it tastes more bitter given the way we dropped points in the last one against Burnley, but the players are capable of better and they need to shoulder that and stop the silly mistakes.
Pathetic effort in the transfer window, insulting to the manager and the fans. Sold down the river to Gao. #gaoingdown

That’s what happens when you don’t sign a striker & let the best one leave.
Still, players can still enjoy the sun in Tenerife.

No signings in January✅
Always conceding after scoring ✅
Lack creativity in final third ✅
SkyBet Championship Football next season? ✅— haz (@HarryJayQuirk) February 9, 2019
Should be ashamed, gutless bored a club with an ego too big to realise we still need signings. Stop focusing about next season and think about the now! Not clear, no signings and back in the drop zone!!! Ralph Kruger better get the message from the fans!

No need to buy in the transfer window ??????????????

Why didn’t we buy Che Adams in January. He scored a Hat Trick today. Shane Long couldn't score in a brothel! Hurry back Danny Ings.

Arrogant to think that we didn't need to strengthen in January.
6 points Cardiff have taken off us this season. SIX!
4 defeats in 4 games against promoted teams this season.
Toothless in attack.#saintsfc #GaoOut— Gazz Smith (@GazzSmith4) February 9, 2019
The lack of fire power and no signings relegation looks very likely shame the club player wise is in such mess more on loan than ever.

I said a few weeks back, Ralph would be a genius to keep this squad up. With no January additions, double genius. Fundamental lack of attacking quality and always likely to cough up a goal is not an ideal combination!
