Southampton confirmed yesterday that manager Mark Hughes had now parted company with the club given our ongoing struggles in the Premier League in the season of 2018/19.

The Welshman came in last season and with his backroom staff of Mark Bowen and Eddie Niedzwiecki, we managed to turn our form around in 2017/18 just enough to avoid relegation but our problems continued over pre-season and into this year and Hughes simply couldn’t turn things around and began further infuriating the fans with his tactics, approach and the blame game that began in the media as the losses mounted.

Southampton’s statement was what you’d expect with them expressing their thanks to Hughes, Bowen and Niedzwiecki for their efforts and simply confirms that a managerial search is now underway.

You would expect us to have someone lined up really so there will be plenty looking into the crowd on Wednesday evening as we face Tottenham Hotspur as if we have done this sensibly, the new gaffer will be taking a watching brief even if there’s no announcement prior to the match.

First team assistant coach Kelvin Davis takes on caretaker duties for now.
