Treble Still On

Saints maintained their dream of a domestic treble by beating Exter City 3-1 at St James Park last night. Goals by McGoldrick (2) and Holmes were enough to see the young lads through.

Now obviously im taking the piss when I say the treble is still on. I mean we might come up against Stoke or West Ham. But in real terms, this win is a confidence booster for the young side. They can consider themselves to be robbed after Saturdays game at Cardiff. And this is the perfect way to answer critics who have tipped them to struggle this year – all beit against lower league oppositions.

My favourite quote surrounding the game comes from ‘Robbie Lee’ Exter Vital Editor who said: ‘In 2003, when City were bankrupt and newly relegated to the Conference, Southampton turned in a decent performance in the FA Cup Final. It’s worth stopping and thinking about that for a moment. Just being on the same pitch as them will do for us. We think City 1 Southampton 3’.
