Victor Wanyama has accused the media of spinning his words in a recent interview that gave rise to reports that explained he had said that Arsenal want to sign him this summer.

Audio – No Pressure To Sell At Southampton

The Sun carried the following.

‘Wenger has been talking about me. And he has let it be known he would like to sign me this summer. Arsenal are a great club and I`d love to play Champions League football as I loved being on that stage with Celtic. But we`ve had a fantastic season at Saints and I want to stay focused on helping the club qualify for Europe.’

When the paper going live with the story it didn’t take Wanyama long to correct it and he said latterly.

‘I have to make it clear that I have not said what as been brought up today am professional and will never say that. To cut the story short have never spoken to Wenger.’

Adding after that.

‘Sorry – was caught off guard this morning about a story that I hadn’t read. To put it straight.

‘We all respect Arsenal but right now I’m only focussed on helping Saints to have a strong finish to the season.

‘The newspaper article does not say that I have spoken to Wenger or anyone else from Arsenal – and that’s the truth.

‘We are doing so well and what other managers think of me as a player is totally out of my control.’

Having been asked the question about the reports himself, manager Ronald Koeman was quoted by the BBC as saying he believed they were rubbish and he warned players to not become distracted with the every inventful press as we head into the summer transfer window.

‘From Victor’s part it is all rubbish and he never said that. I believe that. We spoke together with the players. It’s always at the end of the season there are a lot of rumours about contracts and the future of the players. We need our focus to be on the final five games. That is more important and that was the message to the players this morning. We want to finish the season how we started, playing good football with a lot of points.’

Seems like some are in full swing again for another exodus this summer.
